Gaza

GAZA viser hvordan livet på Gazastripen var før Israels krigmaskineri la nærmest alt i ruiner. Filmen er i stor grad sett fra barns synsvinkel og er en vemodig film som gir oss et tilbakeblikk på en tid som aldri kommer tilbake. Det er en hyllest til et sted som er lagt i ruiner og et folk som har måttet tåle alt av undertrykkelse, nedverdigelse, lidelse, hungersnød og død. En film i solidaritet med en folk som ha mistet så mange tusener, og langt flere er blitt lemlestet - og hvor mer enn 45.000 barn er blitt foreldreløse.

Gaza is described as a vast, open prison. Andrew McConnell wanted to document the surf culture in Gaza and began a photo project in 2014. The project went in another direction. The result was the documentary Gaza, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It portrays the everyday life of the around two million people living in the area: the taxi driver, the man with forty kids and three wives, the girl whose only dream is getting an education, and the ambulance driver standing by to help wounded protesters at the border.

Gaza focuses on the people who are victims and pawns in a political game for both sides: Hamas who controls the area, and Israel who wants to take over the control. The documentary is observing in its form and has a mission to make the world open their eyes and save the inhabitants living in Gaza – before it’s too late.
